The October PTA meeting was held on Thursday, October 21, in the Cooley cafetorium. Mr. Steve Adjemian presided. Fifth grade G/T students, Stephanie Nevarez and Ismael Esparza, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Gonzalez, our principal, introduced our new assistant principal, Ms. Cathy Hinojos.
The winners of the Membership Drive Contest were announced: KC (Mrs. Ramos), 4A (Mrs. Hyatt), and 2D (Mrs. Gamez).
Guest speakers included Ms. Lucy Herrera from Early Childhood Intervention and Judge Angie Juarez-Barill, who is a candidate for the 346th District Court. The Honorable Judge Richard A. Roman was invited to speak, but he did not attend.
An exciting program of favorite patriotic songs was presented by our third graders under the direction of Mrs. Solis, Mrs. Mendoza, Mrs. Parga, Ms. Campos, Mrs. Ortiz, and Mr. Juarez. We all enjoyed selections such as "God Bless the U.S.A.," "This Land Is Your Land," "God Bless America," "Grand Old Flag," and "America." Click here to see a movie of the opening number. The students finished the program with a rousing version of "Fifty Nifty States," composed by the late Ray Charles.
Mr. Adjemian reminded everyone to set their clocks back one hour on October 31st and to be sure to vote on Tuesday, November 2nd. Our next PTA meeting will be on Thursday, November 18th. The meeting was adjourned.
